Inspiration
Our team was inspired by our own personal experiences and curiosity towards the never-ending world of technological advancements. We wanted to find an easy and convenient way to group the current most relevant development tools so that developers all over the globe can save the time of searching for these tools, and get ahead of the curve by getting an early jump on the wave of innovation.
What it does
Devora provides the user with a daily compiled list of the latest trending GitHub repositories along with a detailed description of each project and the technologies utilized. It also determines each repository's relevance to the user based on their project history and future technological goals in order to recommend worthwhile projects that align with the user's profile and ambitions.
How we built it
Devora was built with a Typescript base, and Next.js. It implements Auth0 to provide secure authentication to our users and Gemini API to generate personalized recommendations, tailored to the user's personal interests and history.
Challenges we ran into
1. Designing the UI: The UI was designed with developers of all levels in mind. It is meant to be intuitive and full of useful information, while maintaining simplicity and conciseness to avoid overloading the user with hard to understand information. 2. Standing apart from existing platforms: Going into this project, we were aware of the presence already-established tech newsletters such as Wired, TechCrunch and TLDR. Devora sets itself apart from other these websites through its interactive and teaching-based approach to sharing information. We have created a platform that is more than an informational website. Devora has your best interests in mind and scours the web in search of the best tools to recommend to its users.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have managed to deliver a product that will help curious people learn about the newest technologies in real time, as they begin their ascent in the world of tech. Our mission is to keep everyone in the loop by eliminating the dreadful need to scroll through dozens of news articles in the hopes of finding the next useful tool. We are very proud to be able to present the very first version of Devora within a competitive time frame.
What we learned
Aside from the programming skills we acquired during the development of this website, including the use of Auth0 which none of us had used before, the project itself allowed us to discover new technologies and frameworks.
What's next for Devora
Future additions to Devora could include:
- The possibility to sign up to a Weekly newsletter sent directly to your email, for users who prefer to be reminded regularly to check in with the industry.
- A "Coming soon" section, where Gemini AI will display rumored releases and upcoming projects based on information found through the web.
- Comment sections to allow users to interact with other developers and exchange thoughts about new releases.
