Inspiration/ Problem:

Devpost helps hackathon organizers organize their hackathons. Hackathons have events during the hackathons ranging from "how to write a killer resume" to "how to use Postman" which are very resourceful for a hackathon participant. Hackathons also have sponsors who have their booths during the event and would like to promote their products and services. Not every hackathon attendant gets to the booths or seminars. Some attendants attend the event just for attendance and visit the sponsor's booth for the swags and gifts. This makes the event less engaging and less lucrative for sponsors in future days because of less outreach and brand promotion.

Solution:

Build a feature inside of the current Devpost that would allow the hacker to simply scan a QR code from the Devpost web app at the sponsor's booth and seminar that would count as attendance and offer some rewards/points. At some time of the day, push the notification to the hackers that attended and ask them multiple choice questions, which answers will allow them to earn points. The question might be related to the product or service of a sponsor company or the seminar. At the end of the event, award the winner with some swag or a gift. This will make the Hackathon more engaging and will attract sponsors because of the lucrative outreach they can get.

How I built it:

Brainstorming and building the mockup design using Canva.

Challenges we ran into:

Analyzing which feature (mockup UI) to include for MVP was quite confusing.

What's next for Devpost Events:

Build the feature in Devpost.
