Inspiration: Deforestation has been a serious issue accompanying human's growth in industry and economy. Following the environment track, we want to help raise people's awareness in environment protection through data analysis and data visualization.
What it does: DeWood calculates the extend of deforestation over a given time period and a given area and visualizes the result.
How we built it: we built the web app using Python, Google Earth Engine API, Pillow, and Javascript.
Challenges we ran into: it was really hard for only two of us to finish our construction within 24 hours; we have to learn a lot of new knowledge and apply them in a very short time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: we were able to generate a calculated number representing the extend of forestation with given images.
What we learned: We learned about image recognition and earth engine api.
What's next for DeWood：We will continue to build DeWood and make its functionality complete.
