Inspiration

We thought that a website that shows you vintage or retro photos would fit the theme of CNTRL, ALT, CREATE very well. We also thought that it would be a fun challenge to create a project with the Twitter API and tech stacks that we were not familiar with.

What it does

Currently, it will only display one image from the most recent tweet from the #retro Twitter hashtag. It has the backend design to scale up to user-selected hashtags and a gallery of up to 15 images, but we ran out of time.

How we built it

We built it using NodeJS, ReactJS, and the official Twitter API.

Challenges we ran into

None of us were very familiar with the backend, and we all had limited experience with using APIs. This meant that we had to learn a lot throughout the weekend.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

For all of us being first-time hackathon participants, I'm proud that we all actively participated and learned so much. I'm shocked that we were able to put up a dynamic website using an API because of our lack of background in this technology. This was only possible because we all worked together and taught each other as we went.

What we learned

So much. We learned how to work on multiple branches on GitHub and merge work together. Everything that we did on this project was new to us.

What's next for Dial Back

We would like to work together to get the website fully functional and hosted. This will continue to challenge us, but I believe that it's for the best.
