Inspiration
During voluteering at back to school nights and parent teacher conferences, we realized that most parents had no idea where to go in the school. Also, many incoming freshman, including us, have been frustrated with having trouble navigating everywhere when they first arrive. We figured having a school to explore at home can allow you to gain an understanding of the layout of the school.
What it does
Digital Boro allows navigation through Freehold Boro High school using a VR headset.
How we built it
We built a variety of models that are similar to those in the school and built a skeleton structure of the school. We then placed all of the models where they belong.
Challenges we ran into
It would have been very beneficial to have a blueprint of the school, but since we did not we had to build it based on memory alone. We scoured through pictures and videos to gather information and made it as accurate as possible. However, it is not a perfect representation of the school.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We recreated the school and made assets that were similar representations. We also learned some more complicated aspects of Unity through the C# scripting, which we used for the stair mechanic.
What I learned
Gained knowledge of how to design models using Unity and some scripting using C#.
What's next for Digital Boro
We could refine the current program and make it more accurate to the school by spending time studying and measuring specific parts in order to make it the best it can be. We could also do the same thing for other schools in the district.
