Inspiration
Our team was inspired from struggles in our own isolation. The Covid-19 pandemic has left us isolated in our homes -- where the days melt into one. The lack of routine and regulation exacerbated by the pandemic has increased our isolation, stress levels, and negative emotions. We wanted to build Digital Thoughts to combat these concerns.
What it does
Digital Thoughts has two primary objectives:
- Its main aim is to help people remember and differentiate between each day through a dynamic journal user interface
- It also aims to encourage people to test out new activities everyday to foster connection and engagement ## How we built it
The web app was built with a React.js frontend and Java backend connecting to a MongoDB database.
Challenges we ran into
Remote working made designing, implementing and debugging the code more difficult. Also our Home machines weren't as good as PC's provided by our University. Finally, different Timezones amongst our members made coordinating harder. Also, we had challenges and couldn’t finish the entire prototype in time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that this was the first hackathon for two of our group members, which was an amazing experience. We also collaborated well and supported each other in achieving our goals.
What we learned
We learned that collaboration and delegating tasks is super important early on in the process. We also learned it’s most effective to focus on our areas of strength during the development.
What's next for Digital thoughts
We will continue to work on Digital Thoughts to hopefully fully create a working web app! We believe in our idea and want it to bring meaningful impact to people during this time.
