Inspiration
We were inspired by the theme 'Matrix' to build a device that 'hacks' a victim computer in some way. We figured the easiest way for first timers like us was to build a worm device that plugs into a computer and uploads files onto our server.
What it does
The device connects to a victim computer, and when we execute a command on the server computer, the device will grab files out of a specific directory on the victim computer and upload them to our web application
How we built it
We built the web application using Flask, Html, Css, and Python. We built the scripts for the Pi using Putty and Python
Challenges we ran into
This project was a lot of firsts for all of us, so nearly every aspect was moderately challenging. Getting the web application to work, hosting it on a local network, setting up the OTG with the Pi, and so many more we could list.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Mainly, just getting the device to take commands remotely and execute them on a victim computer was a huge accomplishment, if nothing else works, we have that!
What we learned
We definitely learned a lot about interacting with software and hardware, which as computer science students, we don't always get the opportunity to do such things.
What's next for Dirty Box
It would be nice if we had the time post-hackathon to refine the code and get it to run and post more consistently! We had a few stretch goals that we did not achieve that would also be cool to see implemented.
