Inspiration

Our goal was to make a discord bot that can provide more entertainment for everyone and bring connectivity among users.

What it does

Our bot posts jokes and memes every set interval in order to revive dead discord servers, and to encourage fun during COVID-19. Being oriented around cartoons, it also has a feature to "cartoonify" any input image.

How we built it

We used Python and Google API to systematically search the web for related cartoon/joke results and implemented the Discord bot to convey the images/information. We also created a cartoon-ifying functionality by applying aligning masks and color filters to an image. We took advantage of K-means clustering algorithms to create a new cartoonish color palette.

Challenges we ran into

At first, we struggled to come up with a solution to make a server more connected while staying within the theme of cartoons/anime. We realized that many ideas were off-limits due to the short time constraint, and we needed to find a challenging yet possible solution.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Finishing the project within the time constraint.

What we learned

We learned how to make a Discord Bot and how to use many different APIs despite never having any previous experience, thus paving way for more future project ideas.

What's next for Discortoon

To make it a full-fledged Discord bot, Discordtoon has infinite ways to improve with the addition of new features such as an auto role system, a chatbot feature, and more.
