Inspiration
For our project, we wanted to integrate diversity-promoting technology into the framework of the Texas A&M Espace. The library and the statues around College Station are bustling centers for students, and would be excellent spots to promote a more diverse campus.
What it does
Our first project, DiversCity, will create an interactive map in Evans library that will show where students are from and have lived around the world. Our second project, Gains for Gaines, aims to generate wider publicity and target a younger audience so the Matthew Gaines statue can gain the funding and recognition it deserves.
How we built it
We used 3d modelling, paints, canvas printing, 3d modelling, LED bulbs, and photography (using Adobe Photoshop to edit the photographs.
Challenges we ran into
We had trouble with the LED bulbs, creating a 3d model of the interactive globe, and editing a video for the Matthew Gaines promotion.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a 5'x10' canvas print of the interactive map and we made 3 creative publicity photographs for the Matthew Gaines project.
What we learned
24 hours is a short amount of time for the scope of what we wanted to do for both projects, and 5 minutes is a short amount of time to present.
What's next for DiversCity
Raising funds for both the interactive map and the statue.
