Dog Spots

Have you ever tried to get out of the house and walk with your dog but didn't know where to go, well worry no more about Dog Spots, this app helps you locate nearby dog parks and nature trails.

Inspiration

My inspiration behind the project was a few months ago I started taking my dog to the dog park they recently added near my house. After going to this location for a few weeks I wanted to explore different ones, with the amount of variation I think there should be an app that is curated to the users for dog parks.

What it does

This is an app that allows you to create an account and save locations of dog parks that you enjoy and it suggests you locations as well based on your dog park preferences.

How we built it

It was built in react with node.js and MongoDB is used to store the user and location data

Challenges we ran into

Time was one of my biggest enemies hands down. I spent a little too much time on the homepage and realized the day after that I was a lot more rushed than I imagined.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am happy with the amount of progress I was able to make in a couple of days. I am also thrilled with the UI and the fact it was the first hackathon I did a full stack project on.

What we learned

I learned how to better plan for tight schedules and just how much I can accomplish alone when I'm determined.

What's Next for Dog Spots

I really want to add more functionality and usability to the app. I want to include a proper suggestion algorithm.
