Inspiration
Donoboo was created with the merge of 2 words, Donate plus boo in terms of partner becoming “your donation partner”. This project connects the general public with the charity organisations through exchange of acts of service this christmas. It’s green colour -light green more specifically- scheme was chosen due to its strong connotations with nature and encourages users of the app and websites to feel optimistic about providing acts of service such as donating and volunteering insteading of viewing it as a chore.
What it does
Donoboo connects volunteers with charities, integrating donation opportunities into everyday grocery shopping, making it simple to contribute while running errands. With fun and rewarding features, users can earn items like pet accessories for their in-app pet, as a token of appreciation for their contributions. Its interface makes it easy to locate nearby donation drop-off points and sign up for volunteering opportunities to increase your achievement bar!
How we built it
We used Figma to design our app’s user interface. We used HTML, CSS and Javascript code to make a webapp prototype
Challenges we ran into
We faced challenges in creating the prototype of our webapp, as we were not sure how to create a webapp that could function like what we had in mind. We were uncertain about how to use HTML, CSS and Javascript, as well as databases to make an app that works like how we designed it in Figma.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For a first hackathon experience, we are proud that we managed to work together efficiently piece together all our ideas and successfully design a prototype in figma with our basic knowledge and experience in UI/UX that was able to satisfy all members in the team. We liked our team communication of ideas thoroughly, and to all us of who took this sincerely and helped another out and contributed their best efforts into this project. We are proud of the development of a how a simple idea created to an app which transforms the way people donate food and volunteer, increasing convenient and easy for people to contribute, by using gamification.
What we learned
We learned specific insights such as the types of databases that would be required to run this website such as the location of the users’ residence and the location of the charity to match the best suited places for ease of volunteering. We also learned when and how to place ourselves in the shoes of the users using this platform through research, trial and error, in order to create an UI interface catered for them. It required a lot of brainstorming, imagination and practical analysis before moving forward with an idea while developing Donoboo. From understanding HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc to improving teamwork and thought process of how we can transform ideas that can help the community into an app which encourages more people to donate to charities, the journey was invaluable.
What's next for Donoboo
If Donoboo is able to continue and venture into the real world, with full stack developed coded website and app with funding and necessary resources + manpower for backend, for people to use, We would aim to expand Donoboo by creating a community because we highly believe that connectivity as a whole is a powerful asset to make a difference. One of the possible features that could be added is to include a feedback section for users to suggest for any feedback of the webapp and also allow a platform for users to submit their codes and improve on the UI/UX design of the website to improve its appearance, functionality and accessibility.
