Inspiration
We took inspiration from our older siblings and seniors that are heading off to college this year. With many of us having older siblings we found that a lot of them were struggling to easily find roommates at their respective colleges and as a result we made this idea.
What it does
The platform is a simple web application that allows the users to sign up and matches them with other roommates attending the same college with similar age, interests, hobbies, and majors.
How we built it
We built the application using React.js, Node.js, and Cloud Firestore.
Challenges we ran into
The challenges we ran into were narrowing down what features to add to make the MVP product the most influential on the consumer as well as the judges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the fact that we were easily able to integrate AuthContexts and proper authentication onto the application as well as ensure that it had an extremely appealing user interface so the users would not be bored of it.
What we learned
We learned how to properly integrate Cookies with React as well as Firebase and to use AuthContexts as well as PrivateRoutes to ensure that only authenticated people could access certain routes.
What's next for DormUp
DormUp will hopefully in the future be hosted on firebase, vercel, or heroku and be open for everyone to visit. Additionally, the founders will keep iterating the product to get the best possible version to satisfy consumers.
