Inspiration
Behavioral gamification used by Tinder (swipe left to accept) has been successful in changing attitudes and inducing new behaviors. By dunking trash by swiping up and in the correct bin, we can encourage more people to practice correct gargabe disposal methods. Design thinking methodologies were used to reach this idea.
What it does
Uses gamification and rewarding system to encourage users to do proper garbage disposal.
How we built it
Using Flutter and Unity to built the front end app.
Challenges we ran into
Connecting Flutter and Unity was a challenge. Coming up with a business plan is also a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The game prototype itself is a huge accomplishment.
What we learned
New tech methodologies and how to use design thinking into such short competitions.
What's next for Dump Dunk
Find how to implement machine learning to recognize garbage and figure out other tech constraints. Also how to implement and find funding for the project.
Built on the concept of ‘Behavior Gamification’, Dump Dunk is a mobile app that gamifies the act of ‘dunking’ trash into the correct type of bin (yellow, blue, black etc) using augmented reality. Points are awarded for correct dunking, which can be redeemed for discount coupons at local businesses, hence motivating young adults & the community to participate. It educates the user on proper garbage disposal and also provides meta data (location, type, etc) to the organization for effective waste management planning.
