Inspiration

Michelle Shlivko's grandmother, unfortunately, suffers from Alzheimer's, and it has been increasingly difficult for her grandmother to keep track of her medications and important information about her beloved family members. We hope to change the way Alzheimer's patients live their reality by having a user-friendly and health-oriented application that helps them keep track of all the information that may be forgotten.

What it does

MemoryHarbor is a simple application designed with the intention of helping those with Alzheimer's combat their condition. The application starts off by having a close individual create the user profile by inputting vital information such as the user's name, email, phone number, address, emergency contact information, primary care provider, etc. This information will allow the user to have the most important information with them at all times. This information is formatted in an easy-to-read layout making it accessible and practical for patients with Alzheimer's.

How we built it

We constructed an application on Vscode utilizing React-Native which enabled us to program in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Additionally, we created an SQL database that is intended to be able to connect to our application and store the user's data. With this data, we will able to retrieve and use it on our app to create a profile.

Challenges we ran into, What we learned, & Accomplishments that we're proud of

We initially wanted to create an app solely on AndroidStudios since that is what most of our team was experienced in. However, we did not realize just how interactive our idea was and that solely working on Android Studios would not be enough. Therefore, we sat down together to research other frameworks and languages that can help us achieve our goal. We came across React and SQL, something none of us have ever worked with, and we saw it as a great risk and opportunity to seize. During this 24-hour hackathon, our members have learned CSS, HTML, JavaScript, React, and SQL. There were so many times we almost gave up during the hackathon due to unknown errors and uncertainty, but we supported and lifted each other up along the way. Though we had to learn so much in such a short amount of time, we made the best of our situation and created MemoryHarbor for all to use!

What's next for MemoryHarbor

Since our team spent the majority of our time researching and learning new tools, we were not able to upload all of the data necessary onto SQL. We hope to be able to gather more data from the user while also improving the UI/UX aspect of the app. Additionally, we originally wanted to have a notification system that notified the users with Alzheimer's when to take their medications for the day and reminded them about important events going on in their lives.
