Inspiration

Most people want to be more environmentally conscious, but are unaware of changes they could make to help the environment. Our goal was to develop an app that would bring the user tips and tricks on how to help the environment.

What it does

The android app helps the user be more environmentally friendly by giving them a wide range of tasks to perform. These tasks inform the user about changes they can make to their lifestyle that would help with both the environment and with the covid-19 pandemic. To incentivize the user to perform the tasks, a points system was implemented so that users can compete with each other to claim the top score.

How we built it

The proof-of-concept app was built using android studio, which uses Java for the dynamic aspects of the app, and xml for the static parts of the app. We also created a website to increase the exposure of our app.

Challenges we ran into

We had never made an app before and as such struggled in the beginning trying to figure out what code does what by looking at templates and examples. After some time we figured out how to design the parts of the app we wanted and built our app on top of an android studio template.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to build a functional app having never made one before. We were able to implement our own functions and classes into the existing template to add functionality. We were also able to create an advertising website using a domain.com domain.
