We were inspired by the sheer will to make a difference in the world, and something as simple as an app to help recycling can affect everyone in their everyday lives and hopefully make a widespread impact on our Earth's future.

This app is designed to aid in the correct disposal of materials, as 91% of recyclable plastics sit in landfills, taking about 1,000 years or more to decompose. In these landfills, they continue to sit and pollute our planet. These plastics create greenhouse gases, contributing to climate change. These plastics are also found in the oceans, infesting our waters and hurting the sea creatures. We plan to continue to contribute to a positive future by saving our earth.

We ran into many challenges, but our most prominent challenge was the sheer amount of code we had to write for each of the buttons to get them to all function right. It was really confusing when deciding what code each of us would write, however we overcame this with our teamwork and communication to effectively collaborate on this project.

We are definitely proud of the visual aspect, because the home screen was drawn by our members and we worked hard to make it as visually appealing as possible and not just a normal, boring app.

We learned a lot during this project about ourselves but mostly about coding. It is was easier than it looks, and it takes strong grit and determination to start and finish a project fully. However, we not have a newfound appreciation for all of the technology and applications that we commonly use today, as we know how difficult they are to make.

EcoGO definitely has the potential for something more, and if implemented and produced into an app, has real life applications and can become a widespread source of information and a recycling aid. Even if one person uses it once a week, the effect on the global recycling rate will be enormous, and our Earth is such a vital thing to preserve that this can make all the difference.
