Inspiration
We are passionate about creating a more sustainable world and empowering individuals to combat climate change.
One of the main causes of climate change is the emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from transportation and energy consumption. This not only leads to catastrophic impacts on human health, wildlife, and ecosystems but also contributes to air pollution and environmental degradation. To address this issue, we are inspired to create a user-friendly and professional application called EcoMinder.
What it does
EcoMinder allows users to input their vehicle data and determine their carbon footprint impact. Furthermore, the application will provide suggestions on how people can reduce their carbon footprint, thereby empowering users to take tangible steps towards promoting sustainability.
By using EcoMinder, users will be able to track their carbon footprint impact and take proactive steps towards reducing it. Additionally, promoting clean energy and transportation not only benefits the environment but also creates new job opportunities, strengthens the economy, improves human, wildlife, and ecosystem health.
How we built it
Design: We used Figma, a design tool, to create a user interface for EcoMinder. This involved designing a dashboard for users to input their vehicle information and view their carbon footprint, as well as creating a personalized recommendation engine to suggest ways to reduce carbon emissions.
Website development: We built a website to collect information about users' vehicles and provide recommendations for reducing their carbon footprint. This involved developing a user-friendly interface for data collection, analyzing two data sets to show users how car models impact greenhouse emissions, and finally providing users suggestions for improvement.
Carbon footprint calculation: We used transportation data to calculate users' carbon footprint. Recommendations: Based on research we developed a list of recommendations regarding transportation providing suggestions for reducing carbon emissions
Overall, building EcoMinder involved a combination of design, website development, and data integration. We are committed to continuing to improve and expand our product to help individuals reduce their carbon footprint and promote a more sustainable future.
Challenges we ran into
Our group encountered the difficulty of having to acquire proficiency in a new programming language, particularly in HTML and JavaScript, which we had little prior experience with. Since we lacked familiarity with website development, we had to work through problems in our code and acquire new skills along the way.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of having been able to successfully create a website that has the potential to help people be more aware of the effects of their transportation habits on global warming and climate change. We are also proud of our ability to collaborate productively on this project and despite our limited experience with hackathons and HTML, we were able to help each other persevere and accomplish our goals in creating our final product.
What we learned
We learned about the importance of sustainable daily transportation habits. In addition to gaining knowledge about the significance of sustainable transportation practices and the correlation between the growth of electric car sales and the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, we also acquired new technical skills in HTML and JavaScript to make our website. Through the process, we learned how to effectively use these tools to create an engaging platform that conveys important information in a user-friendly manner.
What's next for EcoMinder
Partnerships: We plan to establish partnerships with organizations and businesses that share our commitment to sustainability. By collaborating with others, we can reach a wider audience and make a greater impact on reducing carbon emissions.
International expansion: We want to expand EcoMinder to other countries to promote sustainability on a global scale. This will involve adapting our product to various cultural contexts and identifying relevant transportation and energy consumption data sources.
Research and development: We plan to continue investing in research and development to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of our carbon footprint calculations and personalized recommendations. This can involve integrating new data sources, developing machine learning algorithms, and conducting user research to better understand our users' needs.
User engagement: We will continue to engage with our users and build a strong community of individuals committed to sustainability. This may involve creating social media campaigns, hosting events, and providing incentives for sustainable behavior.
Impact measurement: We want to measure the impact of our product on reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability. This will involve collecting data on user behavior and carbon emissions, and analyzing the effectiveness of our personalized recommendations.
Overall, our next steps involve expanding our reach, improving our product, and measuring our impact. We are committed to the ongoing development of EcoMinder and to promoting a more sustainable future for all.
