Inspiration

We were inspired by the work that charities do to help our community. Likewise, one thing we valued most was caring for our planet and sustainability because we believe that it is our responsibility to do everything we can to make sure that it is healthy and sustainable for future generations. We also believe that sustainability is key to creating a more just and equitable world. We need to find ways to live more sustainably in order to reduce our impact on the planet and make sure that everyone has access to the natural resources they need.

NFTs are currently trending and are very high in popularity because they offer a way for users to own digital assets that can be used in a variety of ways. These assets can be used to represent things like virtual goods, digital collectibles, and even real-world assets. This gives users a lot of flexibility in how they use their digital assets. Additionally, NFTs are also seen as a way to promote innovation in the blockchain space.

Therefore, We wanted to create a platform that would help to raise money for these charities, while also raising awareness for their cause. We believe that NFTs are a great way to achieve this, as they can be sold for a profit and provide a source of revenue for the charity.

What it does

EcoNFTs is a social enterprise that is working to make it easier for people to give back to charity. We do this by providing a platform for users to purchase NFTs, while also giving back to sustainable charities they believe in. We are committed to sustainability and are working to create a more sustainable future for everyone.

How we built it

Googling how to configure the virtual machines on Google Cloud Platform. Looking up which GANs were capable of producing scenic artwork Utilizing design tools such as Figma Debugging using the chrome dev tools Cloudflare to point the subdomain to the virtual machine Using anaconda to virtualize the python environment

Challenges we ran into

Andrew: I could not get a local DeSo node to successfully create a test account on the test net for whatever reason. It would’ve been cool to actually have the artwork be minted as NFTs. I couldn’t get Google Cloud Platform to attach GPU instances to my VM because there are GPU outages in every region I tried. Nora: One challenge that I ran into while developing the web development for front-end was figuring out how to style different elements on the page in a way that was both visually appealing and user-friendly. Another challenge I ran into was aligning all the properties together and making the prototype off Figma a reality.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Andrew:

  • I successfully integrated the VQGAN neural network to create generative artwork as content for the site.
  • I created a dynamic list fetching system for querying charities with an environmental focus given keywords using the charitynavigator api.
  • I used node.js to develop the backend for this project. Nora: I am proud of our website's design and functionality. I am also proud of the idea we came up with as it combines our love for serving the community, sustainability, and NFTs.

What we learned

Nora: I learned how to create a website and how to use various frontend technologies to create a user-friendly experience. I also learned about different types of blockchain technology and how to use them for our project for future implementation. Andrew: I learned a lot about the backend development process, including how to build and manage a server, how to create and work with APIs, and how to use various programming languages to create backend code. I also learned a lot about database management and how to create and manage database-driven applications.

What's next for EcoNFTs

In the coming months, we will be working on a number of different projects that will help to promote the use of NFTs for charitable causes. We will be working with various charities to create unique NFTs that users can purchase. These NFTs will help to support the charities we partner with, and will also help to raise awareness for their cause. Additionally, we will be developing a decentralized marketplace for NFTs. This marketplace will be used to buy and sell digital assets, including NFTs. This will help to reduce the environmental impact of traditional centralized marketplaces.
