Inspiration
The decentralization of information about local events and local politics is barrier that prevents many people from engaging in their communities, leading to lesser voter turnout. Some are on Facebook, some are on town websites, and some are on bulletin boards.
What it does
Electionary is a centralized platform (app) that provides all the information residents of a statewide/local community need to stay engaged and informed.
How we built it
We used Figma to plan out the website and visualize our idea as a mobile app. Then, we built the website in VS Code through HTML and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
Finding a good way to collaborate on coding was difficult at first - then we discovered Live Share.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We also figured out how to generate Google Maps HTML. More importantly, as beginners, we weren't sure how to approach the project but through brainstorming and asking for mentorship, we were able to build a website.
What we learned
We learned the value of communication to create a large-scale project. We also got exposure to unfamiliar software and technologies that we used to design, build, and execute programs.
What's next for Electionary
We hope to expand it into an interactive mobile app and incorporate a wider range of communities throughout the country. We will also fine tune the app to make it more user-friendly on both the government side and the citizen side.
