Inspiration
People with limited mobility have to deal with more obstacles in their daily life than the general population. One of those problems is evacuation. Because generally, elevators get cut off during emergency, therefore, many times, they get stranded in a room/floor with no other options.
What it does
This mobile application utilizes GPS function to pinpoint the user's location. It also have a page for user to input basic information. The interface consists of 1 simple button that user click to trigger the process. After clicking, the phone will send out a text message to 911 with the GPS location as well as the information they input.
How we built it
We developed it on 2 platform - iOS and Android. For iOS, we developed it with Objective C.
Challenges we ran into
This is our first time making an Android app so we ran into a lot of challenges - time and experience-wise
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have made a usable iOS version For the Android version, we have completed individual actions (send SMS, pull current location, create profile) - we just didn't have time to tie them together.
What we learned
We learned programming skills on an entirely new platform, also problem solving skills.
What's next for Emercuate
We want to apply for military grade GPS system to solve the 30 feet accuracy problem. We want to develop a system for the phone to listen to emergency network to inform the user when there is an emergency before they notice - this can serve people with sensory impaired as well.
