Inspiration
Being menstruators ourselves, we wanted to end the stigma and silence surrounding menstruation and menopause mental health to empower women worldwide. In addition, knowing firsthand about the struggles that those face with premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysmorphic disorder--some of the most neglected and forgotten mental health issues--we were inspired to create a website where we could create a welcoming environment and community that provides resources to care for the mental health of those going through menstruation and menopause.
What it does
Emflowering provides users with resources to care for their mental and physical needs with just a few clicks! On our website, users can chat under discussion posts, create meal and exercise plans that are compatible with their lifestyle, seek professional help, find healthy coping mechanisms, and overall develop a deeper understanding of their bodies to empower themselves.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and Javascript to create a website.
Challenges we ran into
Most of the members have never participated in a hackathon before this, and most of us have little experience with programming. We overcame this challenge by actively meeting through video conferences to discuss, coordinate, and essentially bring our website to life!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re most proud of fulfilling our vision for this project, given the time constraint and that this is our first hackathon!
What we learned
We learned how to code through HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
What's next for Emflowering
Our hope is to continue to expand Emflowering so that every menstruator and person that goes through menopause worldwide can access our website and utilize it to its full extent.
