Growing up in Houston—a car-dependent city surrounded by power plants and heavy pollution—I’ve seen firsthand the environmental challenges we face. Transportation is essential, yet the lack of infrastructure like sidewalks and reliable public transit means most people rely heavily on cars, leading to significant emissions. This reality inspired me to design a solution that empowers individuals to make eco-friendly choices.

I created Emissio, an app that helps users track their carbon footprint and optimize travel routes to save fuel. Through Emissio, I wanted to make sustainable choices accessible and straightforward, especially for people who want to be environmentally conscious but don’t know where to start.

Designing this app alone was challenging, requiring me to navigate everything from user experience design to functionality on my own. Despite moments of difficulty, I pushed through and gained a deep understanding of eco-conscious design and resilience. Emissio is my way of helping bridge the gap between awareness and action in reducing emissions in a car-centered world.
