Inspiration
We wanted to build an entirely new chat experience.
The market is flooded with chat apps but they all fail to do one thing: capture your emotions when you see a message.
What it does
Our chap app hides messages until a user taps to view them. When the user does this, the camera turns on and captures the user's expression/feelings. This is then shown to all participants, making it a fun and social app.
How we built it
Build using Node.js, stdlib (serverless), Kotlin (Android app)
Challenges we ran into
The team consists of only two people, so time was an issue.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built most of the chatting back-end from the ground-up.
What we learned
A lot. Serverless requires different types of thinking.
What's next for Emotichat
Group chat isn't supported yet, and we are hoping to add it in the future.
