Inspiration

We wanted to develop a platform that would empower communities to combat the perils of natural disasters. With a focus on the granular social network at the community level, we look to inform & support communities in ways larger technological platforms can't.

What it does

EmpoweredBy.Tech provides 2 very important features:

  1. Community Posting Board

The Community Posting Board provides a channel for people to spread information and knowledge at the focused community level.

  1. Resource Readiness Map

The Resource Readiness Map offers a user-friendly map with markers representing valuable community resources that can be borrowed, bought/sold, or donated to those in need.

How we built it

The website is built on the MERN stack. React.js is used for the frontend with the support of Node.js to serve pages. Node.js and Express.js power the backend functionality. The React app & backend are hosted on the Google Cloud Platform App Engine. MongoDB Atlas is used as our cloud storage solution.

Challenges we ran into

As newbies, we found React & general front-end development difficult! This was easily the most difficult aspect of the project.

What's next for EmpoweredBy.Tech

We hope to finish this project after the hackathon and experiment with some of the interesting Google Machine Learning APIs.
