Inspiration

Environmental challenges and inaction

What it does

Environmental Development Kit fetches news articles via RSS feeds and then sends those articles to Cohere where our fine-tuned AI model determines how it impacts the progress towards the goal. This creates an accessible, easy-to-read site where all recent news is compiled and categorized for the user to comprehend.

How we built it

We built it using a Flask backend to gather and process all the data via API calls to Cohere and then send that data to a frontend Vue app

Challenges we ran into

Initial difficulty establishing a functional backend across 3 operating systems Had trouble with gathering data efficiently as some methods were very slow

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Fine-tuning a sentiment analysis Cohere model that has a 90% accuracy rate

What we learned

New technologies such as Flask, RSS feeds, and Cohere The importance of being more open-minded to different solutions and pivoting between them when things aren't going right

What's next for EcoDash

Expand the site to include all 17 of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals Create friendly competition between other users to keep everyone more committed and accountable for contributing to a sustainable society
