Inspiration
We were inspired to help people invest in an environmentally and socially responsible way.
What it does
The user adds the stock ticker symbols which make up their portfolio. The app will then calculate and display the environmental, social, and good (ESG) score for the portfolio.
How we built it
First, we identified our value proposition. Then we developed ideas for the app concept. Next, we mocked up the app's user interface in wireframes (first on paper, then using an app called Figma). After that, we developed the app using these technologies: MongoDB for the database, ExpressJS for the webserver, ReactJS for the user interface (UI) framework, NodeJS for the server-side programming, Mongoose for the database object data modeling (ODM), Reactstrap for a user interface (UI) component library, and Github (Git) for source code control Finally, we tested the app to make sure that it works well.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge we ran into is that environmental, social, and good (ESG) data is not freely available. Every website wanted us to pay for these ratings.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how we worked as a team to make a cool app. Got to work on a completely new tech stack with amazing new people.
What we learned
We learned how to build and deploy a modern web-based app.
What's next for ESG Folio
We are going to keep innovating on other projects.
