Inspiration
Our vision for ExoLand is to make the dream of owning a piece of space real estate accessible to everyone. With the rise in interest for investing in space assets, we wanted to bridge the gap between aspiration and reality, allowing anyone to view and buy land on celestial bodies. Our goal is to offer an engaging, fun experience while making space ownership a tangible possibility through a streamlined, digital platform.
What it does
ExoLand allows users to explore available plots of land on exoplanets, moons, and other celestial bodies through an interactive web interface. Users can easily browse, select, and purchase these plots using Coinbase for seamless crypto transactions. It’s a unique blend of space exploration and digital real estate investment, all in one website.
How we built it
Our development stack includes Node.js and Express for the backend, with React, HTML, and CSS powering the frontend—all integrated on WebStorm for a smooth development process. We’ve designed an intuitive, clickable visualization system for users to interact with celestial bodies, making it easy to explore and purchase land.
Challenges we ran into
Throughout the project, we faced challenges typical of hackathon development, including merging code from different contributors, handling various plugin requirements, and managing API calls. These challenges pushed us to improve our teamwork and problem-solving abilities, ultimately strengthening our project.
Accomplishments we’re proud of
For three of our team members, this was their first hackathon, and we’re thrilled with how much we’ve learned and achieved in a short time. We successfully built a unique website with an engaging user experience, incorporating complex functionality like clickable celestial plots and crypto-based transactions. Our growth as a team and our final product reflect the hard work and dedication we brought to ExoLand.
What we learned
This experience taught us a lot about JavaScript, API integration, and how to work with different models to enhance our website. We honed our skills in full-stack development and collaboration, gaining valuable insights into both front and backend development.
What’s next for ExoLand
Moving forward, we plan to refine ExoLand’s website and services, enhancing the user interface and adding additional features. With more time and motivation, we hope to launch ExoLand as a fully-fledged platform, offering even more interactive space real estate opportunities for users worldwide.
