Inspiration

Living in Florida, we tend to be hit by hurricanes constantly. We realized that although Florida is a prime state for hurricanes, the east coast generally also tends to be hit more often than the rest of the country. We wanted to build a site where we could find all the information people would need to know when a hurricane is coming.

What it does

Have you ever realized a hurricane is coming soon and you aren’t prepared or don’t know where to start? Fear no more, with EyePrepare, now hurricanes are scared. EyePrepare is here to help you by providing you with all the hurricane tips in one location. On EyePrepare, you’ll be able to see hurricane statistics for the states most affected by hurricanes, what kind of supplies you need to have (whether you have to evacuate or not), current news from all major websites and a hurricane safety guide. We’re here to prepare you to survive in any conditions during hurricanes.

How we built it

We used Sketch to design out the layout before we started coding. We used Github and Atom to collaborate and push our changes etc. The languages that we used to code this website are HTML, CSS, and a little bit of JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

Making the website responsive was one of our main issues that we kept running into and having to change. Along with that, the 36 hours went by so quickly and didn't allow for us to fully design the website like we wanted to, but we made as much progress towards our dream as we could.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of how we were able to make the website responsive so that it adjusts to the size of the screen, whether you are on mobile, a tablet, or computer. We are also proud of the blinking eye animation that we made and that we were able to build a new team and collaborate well together over the internet.

What we learned

We learned a lot of technical skills; for example, connecting Github to Atom and using it to collaborate on team projects. We also learned that it is possible to collaborate completely online with people you’ve never met before and build an entire website from scratch. The importance of design and making the website look appealing to the eye (or what we were able to do in the 36 hours). We learned a lot of facts about hurricanes that we didn’t know before.

What's next for EyePrepare

Coming for EyePrepare in the future is the ability to be able to see where supplies have run out near you and where they are still available. We would also like the statistics page to expand and provide more information per state and more states.
