Weak health literacy on medications can lead to adverse drug events and medication errors. As a consequence, patients may subject to a high risk of interaction between substances, and eventually, suffer from drug incompatibility. In severe cases, medication errors can result in gradual health deterioration, severe injury, or even life-threatening condition.

Whilst EzMed is targeted for people of all ages, it provides additional help for people suffering from memory difficulties including patients with alzheimer.

Persona:

  • Patient: Margaret, age 85, early-stage alzheimer
  • Health conditions: high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, and currently taking Clopidogrel anti-platelet medication
  • Medication error: Digoxin — a medication used to treat a heart rhythm disorder of the atria
  • Adverse effect: Slow heartbeat which leads to extreme fatigue, eventually death

Some key features to highlight:

  • Patient's medication cabinet: Allows patients to keep track of their own medications: what time of day should they take them, their suitable medication dosage, and how long will they last
  • Medicine Wiki: A summarised dictionary containing multiple prescribed and non-prescribed (OTC) medications for better health literacy and comparison. It can be useful to look for instruction of use, medication dosage, and their alternatives
  • Social chat with pharmacists: A place where guardians/ caregivers and patients can interact with experienced pharmacists for professional drug advices and health guidelines
  • Patient's medication history: Keep track of the entire medication history of a patient

Hence, health literacy on medications is of utmost importance to people of any age range, and EzMed is here to help! Not only does it help a patient him/ herself, it also comes in handy for multiple caregivers/ guardians, or even health workers like doctors when it comes to tracking one's medication needs.
