🌟 Inspiration

Misinformation is no longer just a side effect of the internet — it's a global crisis. During recent events like the India-Pakistan tensions, my feed was flooded with AI-generated visuals, fake headlines, and out-of-context screenshots. I saw people I respect fall for completely false claims.

That’s when I realized something important: even smart users rarely verify facts if the process is slow or disruptive.

I asked myself — what if checking the truth was just three clicks away?

That question inspired me to build UnCovered — a seamless browser extension that makes verifying content fast, intuitive, and actually enjoyable.

🛠️ How I built it

Frontend

🚧 Challenges I ran into

Multimodal Querying: Designing one unified flow for text, image, and screenshot input
Real-Time UX: Keeping the UI fast and non-intrusive while waiting for deep AI responses
Chrome OAuth Permissions: Making login secure and lightweight without creating friction
Verdict UX: Creating clean, trustworthy True/False/Unconfirmed output formats without bias

🏆 Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Built a fully working multi-modal fact-checking tool from scratch
Enabled right-click image + screenshot verification — something very few tools offer
Seamlessly integrated Perplexity’s most powerful AI APIs into a user-friendly Chrome workflow
Designed a clean, fast experience that actually fits into everyday browsing

📚 What I learned

Convenience is critical — people won’t verify facts unless the tools are instant and intuitive
AI can empower everyday users with tools that used to require deep research skills
Multimodal verification (text + images + screenshots) is not just possible — it’s essential
The design of truth tools matters just as much as the underlying intelligence
