Inspiration

Yesterday was International Women’s Day, and it made us realize how many amazing things women have done and continue to do. In the theme of celebrating communities, we thought it important to celebrate the community of womanhood while also showing the obstacles women have and still face now. We understand that there is still a lot that needs to be done to help make changes, and we want users to be able to see all this information in one place so they can understand what needs to happen in order to make a difference.

What it does

Through our website, you can learn more about women’s history, trailblazers around the world, and information about women in the workplace.

How we built it

We built everything entirely with HTML/CSS/JS, trying to make it as dynamic and responsive as possible.

Challenges we ran into

We had some challenges visualizing and figuring out how we could make our website more interactive. We wanted to make sure the user felt as engaged as possible, so we went through many iterations, making sure there were more clickable events and user inputs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of our favorite accomplishments is actually located on the homepage. The binary numbers that stand behind our landing page say “women run the world”, which we feel truly shows the impact we feel we have.

What we learned

We learned a lot about women’s history. We learned about making interactive websites and displaying data graphically. We learned about the gender pay gap, specifically in the tech world.

What's next for FemFacts

We would like to implement a parallax effect to the timeline so that it will show up as you scroll. We also want the timeline to have descriptions on alternating sides for a more aesthetic effect.
