Inspiration
Our goal was to create an app that can provide a platform for women of all backgrounds and expertise to connect and share their knowledge with each other.
What it does
Feminam provides a platform for women to easily network with people from the ease of their phone. All they require is internet access and they can easily swipe right into the meetings that they want to go into and swipe left on the meetings that they dont. It’s that simple. The app gives women flexibility to educate others and themselves and make professional/personal connections. We give all users the opportunity to host and join a meeting at any time they like. We have also incorporated a feature where a motivational quote will appear daily when the user opens the app. They will also be able to journal their thoughts/make a to-do list for themselves while they are attending a meeting on our platform.
How We built it
The app is built on Flutter SDK, which makes it a cross-platform environment for both Android and iOS. For the back-end data management, Firebase and Cloud Firestore have been collaboratively used, and also along with the help of Firebase, we have integrated Google Sign-in feature with which users can get into the app without any sort of pre-sign up required. We have used Firebase ML Vision for extracting text from images and Cocoapods for installation of needed directories for iOS. The app is also migrated for null safety which creates a consistent app without throwing null errors. For prototyping the entire app, we have used Figma and Adobe Illustrator for UI/UX design handling.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenge was the firebase ML extractor and with support for better authentication for Google Sign-in. We also had issues during null safety migration which resulted in conflicts with Cocoapods.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Being a woman myself, it feels really nice to know that I can also contribute to making a wonderful platform that is inclusive of all current/upcoming successful women in our world. ~Sanjana
It really makes me happy to see women content creators contributing to the society to make the world an awesome place. ~ Amey
What we learned
As a team, we collaboratively worked together to make this project a success and as a result, we have improved our team-building skills, and excellent communication among the teammates has been proved to be fruitful. We learned new UI/UX methodology like Figma and using text to image extractor using the power of Machine Learning. Along with this, we also had a great time developing the app.
What's next for Feminam
Using 2FA for better data protection and more privacy. We also aim at using Machine Learning to avoid fake identities and useless scams.
