Inspiration
Gender diversity in the workplace has long been a heated issue. In STEM particularly, we find that women and non-binary make up a relatively small part of the field. Why? The reason lies in the fact that men in STEM are found to have more connections, through which they can seek job mentorship and referrals, and therefore, stand a higher chance of successfully getting a job in the technology market than women and non-binary.
What it does
We created this platform to assist women and non-binary to find the job mentorship and referral they have long needed to step into the technology world. On Feminary, we feed users the potential mentors’ and referees’ profiles based on the census we got from their registration. One special feature of our site is that we rate mentors and referees based on reviews of our users. Before choosing, other users can check these ratings to see how trustworthy and helpful a mentor or referee is. Our web also offers rewards. Users will receive rewards for inviting their friends to our platform. Mentors and referees will get rewards when they successfully help users get the jobs they want.
How we built it
We take the advantage of React library and Ant design components to wrap up our website easily.
Challenges we ran into
Technology: We are not optimized for SEO; therefore, currently not many people can find us. Moreover, some libraries are deprecated which accounts for a lot of time in bug fixing. Research: We are not having enough time to research personality-related questions to further optimize the way we measure the user's personality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to create an impactful website for women and non-binary people. Feminary is dedicated to support the workplace well-being for the community.
What we learned
During the time with Creatica, we find out that it's very important to believe in what we are doing and that it will have an impact on our beloved community.
What's next for Feminary
We’ll continue developing our web so that users can also put down their job interests as well as their desired working environment (whether it is result-oriented, innovative, or collaborative). We can optimize our matching process and find our users the most suitable mentors and referees based on this information.
