The theme for this Hackathon was Community, Festivity, and Generosity. After much consideration, our team decided to implement a website that promotes community service during the festive period through a creative advent calendar!
What it does
Each day, a user may visit the website and open up the respective date. The site will display a challenge/event for the user to take part in which is based on community service and/or generosity for their community or social circle.
How we built it
The site is fully built on Visual Studio Code using languages HTML and JavaScript and designed on Figma. For collaboration between teammates, we used GitHub as a centralized platform.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge involved achieving the visuals we designed for the website. It took many tests and runs to get the visuals the way we intended them to be. Fortunately, we overcame the challenge which resulted in the website we have now!
What we learned
We learnt a lot from this experience! To name a few, we learnt how to practice effective coding habits in a collaborative team using GitHub, learnt the detailed workings behind a website, and learnt how to bring our idea to life through code!
What's next for Elfify
In an ideal situation, Elfify would include more information, such as contacts in a page footer, a user log in, along with a discovery tab where users can post their progress and explore other users' progress too.
