Inspiration
Our inspiration for creating FinTweet came from recognizing the lack of transparency and difficulty in comparing prices for everyday essential services like auto insurance, home insurance, and utility bills. We noticed that many people struggle to know if they are paying more than necessary and lack access to a platform where they can compare their costs with others. Drawing from the concept of Levels.fyi, which revolutionized salary transparency in the tech industry, we envisioned a similar approach for daily services, empowering consumers to make informed financial decisions.
What it Does
FinTweet simplifies the process of comparing costs for day-to-day services. Users can anonymously share and view prices for services such as auto and home insurance, utility bills, and more. The platform provides a comprehensive comparison tool where users can see how their expenses stack up against others. It includes features like customized filters for location, service providers, and service types. FinTweet aims to bring transparency to these markets and help users find the most cost-effective options.
How We Built It
Despite our lack of language and framework expertise, our group was really driven to produce a project. We used Figma as our main technology to make our idea a reality. Before we started coding, Figma helped us design and construct a prototype of our project so we could test and refine our ideas.
We were able to meticulously construct each frame and each interaction's behavior thanks to Figma. Because of this, we were able to produce a highly functioning prototype that had page transitions and dropdown menus. We assumed complete accountability for making sure there was a corresponding screen to navigate to for each decision we wished to illustrate.
Challenges We Ran Into
One of our main challenges was ensuring data privacy and security, given the sensitive nature of financial information. We also faced difficulties in designing a user interface that was both intuitive and capable of handling complex data comparisons. Another challenge was creating an algorithm for accurate and relevant comparisons, considering the vast differences in individual service needs and locations.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
We are particularly proud of developing a platform that addresses a real-world problem and empowers consumers. Creating an algorithm that provides accurate and personalized comparisons was a significant achievement. We also take pride in our user-friendly design that makes financial comparisons accessible to everyone, regardless of their tech-savviness.
What We Learned
Throughout this project, we learned a great deal about user interface design, data privacy, and the intricacies of different day-to-day services. We also gained insights into the importance of community-driven platforms and how they can influence market transparency and consumer decision-making.
