Inspiration

A big majority of today’s teens are financially illiterate and are unaware of how/where to invest, or how a stock market operates. As per a survey that we conducted with local teens, there is a huge interest (93%) in learning how to invest but there isn’t a platform today that allows teens to experiment with different ways of investing in a fun, interactive manner.

What it does

Fiscus is a finance literacy focussed app aimed at educating teens about the basics of investing in an ever-changing stock market, connecting them with like-minded teens, and sharing resources -- all of which enable them to become smart investors and create wealth for themselves in the future.

There are three main components of our app: a simulated stock market, blog about investment resources, and partial shares feature.

Through the simulated stock market, users are given roughly 10,000 points which they can use to buy and sell stocks based on real-time data. To be successful and make money through the simulation, teens will be required to research the stocks they are interested in beforehand and evaluate whether it is a good time to buy the selected stock. Although there is no money involved, users are able to gain practice on how to invest in stocks and what trends they should look out for.

Fiscus also features an extensive blog, where users can access articles and watch videos on tips and tricks for opening an investment account and analyzing stock trends.

The last feature is the partial shares, where users can connect with like-minded students to partially buy, own, and sell stocks. This part of the app will be open to teens who make a profit of 50,000 points through the simulation, as this is where a limited amount of real money is involved.
