Inspiration
We all use Facebook Messenger as our messaging app. But there have been times where we lost files, photos, events etc that have been discussed on the platform, so we decided to build something to help us with this issue.
What it does
Flack is a combination of a bot in messenger and an item called web view that is embedded on the platform. We save files, photos, reminders, code, and messages on distributed folders identified by hashtags and general. We also added a feature to write code, giving it a good format.
All of this works directly on Messenger without redirecting to other apps.
How we built it
We developed the web site to be embedded on the messenger web view, we use Heroku to host the web app and as the database. We built a bot to identify the commands to trigger our web view and execute the corresponding actions to instantiate, save and view.
Challenges we ran into
Messenger API limited us because there was no option to retrieve the last message in a conversation, that's why we decided to build a bot in order to help us show how it would work on an actual messenger conversation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We use the latest technologies of facebook and our code runs without problems.
What we learned
We learned a lot about bots and Facebook web views, also we improved our skills in web applications.
What's next for Flack
We hoped we could upload it for all people to use it, also we can make many more improvements with more time. Because we think is a really helpful tool for those who use Facebook Messenger as their primary messaging app, and for those who use it as a tool for their work, education and daily lives.
