Inspiration
We believe that many people have had the misfortune of going into a dirty, smelly, unkempt public restroom and vowed never to return to that particular toilet. Another awkward situation that we face is trying to find a restroom in an unfamiliar or crowded environment.
While there are pre-existing bathroom locators such as the public toilet map that locates nearby toilet facilities, they unfortunately do not show features which allow accessibility and do not update their users with bathroom cleanliness.
To better meet the needs and expectations of our changing community, we came up with a convenient and efficient plan to locate restrooms and monitor the cleanliness of these shared amenities.
What it does
Improves independence and quality of life by providing directions to the nearest toilet facilities, as well as information on accessibility and cleanliness.
How we built it
We made our app prototype using Figma and used Xcode to develop our front end.
Challenges we ran into
As we have just started learning the basics of programming, we have very limited technical knowledge. So we are not familiar with the components of building an application.
We have made some satisfying progress in developing the front end but weren't able to start developing the back end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to create prototypes using Figma, build a UI with responsive pages and present our ideas in a clean and sophisticated way. We are also proud that even with narrow programming knowledge, we have attempted to learn different parts such as front end (our first time trying React and material UI even though it did not make it to our final submission), back end (including APIs), and have a go at producing our final product.
What we learned
All of us got our first experience with code, and learnt what a web app is capable of doing. We are very grateful for the learning experience!
