Inspiration
Hearing about the cleaning problems from the Spotless cleaning department representatives and research showing that other smart toilet systems are more focused on sensing what is in the toilet to determine whether it requires maintenance and cleaning.
What it does
The Flushh system involves a proximity sensor and a moisture sensor installed in the toilet cistern and uses smart algorithms to decide whether people have been flushing and when it is time for the toilet to be cleaned and maintained. It also tests whether the toilets are clogged based on the time taken to flush. All the data from the toilet sensors is collected and analysis in the cloud is used to determine performance of toilets and performance of the employees to clean the toilets. It can detect if people are not flushing using the proximity sensor
How we built it
We built a prototype that uses a cheap sensor to transmit over Wi-Fi the data from the moisture sensor. We also set up a back end system which collects this data and analyses it however it is not yet connected to the dashboard. We designed a 3D model of a special holding case to hold all of the components in the back of the toilet where they will not get damaged.
Challenges we ran into
Sometimes the Wi-Fi was not reliable in the place we were testing so we installed an ethernet cable which to act as an alternative to Wi-Fi.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We've come up with a revolutionary way of detecting toilet clogs based on flush characteristics. We also designed a new algorithm that can detect dirty toilets based on the usage in comparison with neighbouring cubicles
What we learned
There are different types of toilets and in order to cater for them all our solution has to use proximity as a detector for occupancy of a urinal.
What's next for Flushh
Flushh is aiming to improve its detection by using toilet paper sensors and improving the accuracy of the management dashboard KPI parameters.
