Inspiration
We were inspired by the app called 30/30 which helps people keep track of a timetable/routine while being as time-efficient as possible. We wanted to help create a website that would benefit students by helping them focus since there are many distractions out there such as our phones. This site also helps you relax and take care of your mental health with the use of music, relaxing sound effects, and imagery. This website can be a very good website for students to come on, listen to music, record their tasks on the to-do list, and be reminded to take breaks after a certain amount of time. The color green is known to relax your brain and help you focus hence why we used a light pastel green throughout our site. We wanted to create a site that can help users of all ages, not just students focus and achieve their goals through the beauty of music. Music is an amazing way to relax your mind and keep you motivated to reach your goals and be mindful of your mental health. Another thing that inspired us were minigames that relax your mind such as candy crush
What it does
Our website allows a user to check off some boxes of how they feel and will generate a playlist of songs based on their target goal of focusing. After it generates a playlist, the user can choose to set a timer that will remind them to take a break. The site also has a drawing pad in case the users get bored during their break and they can use it for enjoyment. There is also an Ai-powered bot that can engage in small conversations along with hosting some trivia questions. Our website promotes the use of the Pomodoro technique which is working for some amount of time while taking lots of breaks. There is also a to-do list on the site
How we built it
We built the website using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. We collaborated through discord, splitting up the work in half and helping each other. The designs and visuals of the website were created with photoshop. We used a green theme since green scientifically helps you focus and relax
Challenges we ran into
some challenges we ran into was the drawing pad not allowing the user to enter a custom hex value, some CSS issues with styling the site, and some bugs along the way
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to successfully incorporate AI into our project and we were able to have a working drawing pad in our project. The AI chat/trivia bot was very fun to learn and build as it allowed us to unleash our creativity.
What we learned
We learned how to create and integrate an AI chat bot and how to make a reactive drawing pad using the HTML canvas. we also learned how to manage our time properly and that the color green eases your mind
What's next for Focus Aid
In the future, we plan on expanding the features that Focus Aid has by added more AI-generated options to enhance the user's experience. We also plan on adding more user input such as allowing a user to input their own hex code into the drawing app. We also plan on adding more features to the AI trivia bot such as some commands, tasks and a table to store your ideas and some mini-games and more trivia questions for the break time
