Inspiration
I come from a farming background. Extreme weather invents have been critical in productivity of our village. From crop output to energy infrastructure, everything gets affected by it. Thus, I wanted to create a webapp that can help demystify the impact of current weather events.
What it does
WeatherWise Impact Investor lets users input a U.S. state codeto retrieve live weather alerts from the National Weather Service. The app then uses AI to analyze the geospatial impact of these alerts on infrastructure, productivity, and publicly traded companies helping users see where they can 1) support affected communities and 2) identify stable or emerging investment opportunities.
How we built it
Weather data is sourced from MeteoWise. Real-time alerts are pulled from the National Weather Service API. AI analysis is powered by Google Gemini, leveraging geolocation and advanced weather modeling to assess regional impact.
Challenges we ran into
One key challenge was integrating the MetGIS service for long-term climate forecasts. The API was unreliable, which impacted our ability to incorporate predictive modeling.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud that Forecast Alpha translates complex weather data into plain-language impact reports, helping everyday users and investors act intelligently and compassionately.
What we learned
We learned how to connect real-time weather feeds with AI reasoning, and how vital usability and clarity are when turning raw data into actionable insights.
What's next for Forecast Alpha
We plan to integrate long-range forecasts via MetGIS, improve sector-specific financial models, and add community-based impact tracking for greater local relevance.
