Inspiration
When we were given the topic of "marketability", we weren't too sure where to go off of for our project; however, upon discussing we realized that there is one issue that many people face these days without realizing – unnecessary food waste. We realized that one of the major reasons for food waste is the lack of a system that guides people to combat these habits. Online recipes require the user to have the ingredients available on hand; however, this requires everyone to go buy the necessary ingredients and are often left with unwanted extra leftovers that end up in landfills.
What it does
Fridge Out is a mobile application that provides users with the accessibility to search recipes based on the available ingredients found in their kitchen.
How we built it
The application was built using Flutter.
Challenges we ran into
Prior to this hackathon, none of us has built any mobile applications or used Flutter. Although the learning curve for Flutter wasn't super challenging as we all have prior web development knowledge, it did take everyone some time to become comfortable with the syntax.
Another challenge we had to solve was git merge conflicts as we built parts on our own git branch prior to merging onto the master/main branch.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Overall, we are extremely proud of what we produced given the time constraint of a Hackathon and most of all, learning a completely new software development tool that would benefit us as we grow as software developers.
