Inspiration
What does it mean to build meaningful connections and how can we do it best? Apps like Tinder and Bumble BFF are poor examples of how technology can be leveraged to create meaningful relationships because their match-making algorithms are purely based on your location, measured attractiveness, and surface-level interests. These factors don't take into ones' chemistry with different types of people. We argue that friends make friends who are similar to one another--and thus it's more likely to find someone who you truly like to be around amongst the borders of your current friend circle.
What it does
It connects the user with friends of their current friends so that they can meet people with similarities to them. The user gets to choose who they want to get to know better through the usage of different like buttons.
How we built it
We used HTML/CSS/JS, and we also tried to use an API and React. We took a bit of a two pronged approach. While one teammate worked through the more difficult APIs and React, the other worked with the HTML/CS/JS to try to get the prototype, and we hope to combine the two in the future.
Challenges we ran into
One of our teammates had another time conflict so we could only work together for a short time. Additionally, we had to familiarize ourselves with all the software we used as we aren't experienced in APIs and React, and even HTML/CSS/JS weren't languages we focused on.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are happy with what we have done overall, even if it is not what we had set in our original sights. We have "working prototype" that shows the general purpose, and we are proud that one of our teammates worked through learning APIs and React so that we can improve our project in the future.
What we learned
We learned more about HTML/CSS/JS and APIs and React, and that there's many ways to code one thing.
What's next for Cyrcle
In the future we hope to use this bare bones, very small scope prototype we have with HTML/CSS/JS and add in the APIs and React code that we have so that we can have a stronger and more capable project.
