Inspiration
We've all experienced firsthand the bureaucracy and inefficiency of medicine in the US. We wanted to provide a way to cut through the clutter and deliver the right information while saving our users time.
What it does
Galen connects healthcare providers (HCPs) and pharmaceutical representatives, providing a chat interface for them to communicate, as well as a dashboard for them to analyze their interactions. It also provides a way for HCPs to easily start the process to provide their patients with the medicine they need, using AI agents to help automate PDF form completion using our platform's database.
How we built it
We built our platform as a web app built with TypeScript using Next.js, while we used Supabase to host our database in the cloud. We also used MCP and LangChain to create an AI agent using the OpenAI API.
Challenges we ran into
None of us had ever used MCP before, and we were confused by how it worked. We also didn't realize the challenges of effectively implementing the tools that our agents would use.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We set out to solve an incredibly vast array of problems across a few domains, and we are confident that we were able to address almost all of them reasonably well. We all explored new technologies and used them to solve novel issues, something we will always be proud of.
What we learned
We learned about how to integrate agentic AI into a full-stack solution, interacting with databases in real-time to provide immediate and effective solutions.
What's next for Galen
We really want to explore what we can do with AI agents in the future. There are many efficiencies within the medical administrative process that provide opportunities for AI agents to come in and streamline the process.
