Inspiration
The intricate beauty of DNA inspired GeneGlance. We aimed to create an accessible tool for researchers and students to analyze DNA sequences effortlessly and make genetic insights available to all.
What it does
GeneGlance is a DNA analysis tool that simplifies complex bioinformatics tasks. It calculates reverse complements, GC content, detects mutations, and finds motifs in DNA sequences with ease and accuracy.
How we built it
We developed GeneGlance using Python, leveraging Streamlit for the intuitive interface and Biopython for biological computations. Each feature was carefully designed for performance and simplicity.
Challenges we ran into
One key challenge was optimizing sequence comparison for mutation detection and handling large sequences. Additionally, creating an engaging yet functional UI while maintaining scalability required careful planning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud to deliver a user-friendly tool that combines efficiency with elegance. GeneGlance brings bioinformatics to anyone with an interest in DNA, bridging a gap in accessibility and usability.
What we learned
This project deepened our understanding of DNA sequence analysis, computational biology tools, and user experience design. We also gained insight into how to balance technical functionality with simplicity.
What's next for GeneGlance
We aim to enhance GeneGlance with new features, including protein translation, visualization tools, and support for FASTA file uploads. Our vision is to make GeneGlance a comprehensive bioinformatics platform.
