The inspiration behind GenTales came from observing the increasing digital divide faced by our grandparents. Many older adults struggle with using modern technology due to limited technical skills, physical limitations, or simply feeling overwhelmed by complex apps. At the same time, technology has the potential to improve their well-being through mindfulness exercises, wellness resources, and maintaining connections with loved ones.

Core Features:

User-Centered Design: The app was built with senior citizens in mind, focusing on simplicity and intuitive navigation. We prioritized features such as large buttons, easy-to-read text, and clear instructions.

Daily Journaling: A simple space for seniors to reflect and express gratitude.

Photo Sharing: One photo upload per day to foster connection without overwhelming the user as well as preventing doomscrolling.

No Comment Section, Only a ‘Like’ Feature: By allowing only ‘likes’ on photos, the app fosters a positive and supportive environment without the risks of negative interactions or misunderstandings. This approach reduces social pressure, prevents digital fatigue, and encourages seniors to share moments freely, making the platform more inclusive and stress-free.

Virtual Wellness Resources: Yoga, meditation, and breathing techniques accessible from home. It is equitable ensuring that all seniors, regardless of location, income, or physical ability, can benefit from these tools. This fosters inclusivity and supports their well-being, addressing issues like loneliness, digital isolation, and lack of access to wellness resources.

Technology: We used Figma

Challenge: Ensuring the app was visually clear and easy to navigate for seniors with varying levels of tech proficiency was challenging. We had to balance simplicity with functionality to create a well-rounded experience.

Conclusion This project allowed us to combine our passion for wellness and technology while addressing a crucial need in the senior community. It taught us the importance of designing with empathy and focusing on creating technology that enhances lives rather than overwhelms users.
