Inspiration
One of our roommates supplied us with the idea, which we thought was a neat service for people to use.
What it does
It lets the user leave notes wherever they are located, and also read notes left by other people.
How we built it
We used the Android SDK to develop the mobile application. In addition, we used the Google Location API in order to get the user's location, the Google Maps API to draw a map with markers for other people's notes in different locations, as well as the Firebase backend to store the user information.
Challenges we ran into
Android is a constantly changing platform, and many APIs that are easily implemented become easily deprecated, so we had to learn a lot of new APIs and services offered by Android. In addition, this is the first time that we have used the Google Location API, as well as Firebase, so it took time to figure that out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of learning a lot and of being able to implement our minimum viable product in such a short time period.
What we learned
Teamwork, dedication, and also a lot of cool new APIs, services, and technologies.
What's next for GeoNotes
We are going to continue working on the app to extend features and to transform it from prototype stage to product stage, and eventually put it up on the Google Play Store.
