Inspiration
A Geoguessr game made specifically for Oakland University. Free to play and offers challenges and angles you won't find anywhere else
What it does
The user is given a random image from anywhere in Oakland University. This includes about 120 photos of staircases, hallways, classrooms, etc. Anything is possible! Users must pinpoint where they are using an interactive map to earn points. After 10 rounds, see what your final score is!
How we built it
We used Github, VsCode, and CoPilot to build it.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge came with the lengthy process of gathering, naming, and uploading the many pictures we took ourselves. Photos aside, we had UI complications trying to perfect our design for GEOU. We decided to take a simple approach that still looks clean
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The randomization of selecting and displaying a photo for every round, as well as eliminating the possibility of repeating photos in the same game. We are also proud of our interactive map that includes a Duck-themed pointer to select where your location is
What we learned
We gathered a lot more experience with UI design. Working with the JavaScript stack also provided a lot of knowledge on randomization and accessing files
What's next for GEOU
- More Photos and Variety of Photos
- A different point system based on how accurate the user's guess is
- New Game Modes (Staircases Only, Head-to-Head, etc.)
