Inspiration

Food and clothes are necessities for every individual. Big companies currently have extensive production for food and clothes that exceeds the demand. For example, the fashion industry is dealing now with mass-produced non-recyclable clothes. Another example is, buffets are making food for consumers and usually, the excess food will be thrown away even though the food is usually completely safe and in a good condition. Also, the food which is leftover in private events (like parties) and corporate events is wasted. This problem triggered the need of establishing an automated service that guarantees to receive donations, including food, money, clothes, and other necessities from businesses and individuals. These services guarantee the food quality and deliver it safely to charities, NGOs (Non-governmental Organisations), and other organizations.

Originality: We have tried to incorporate every possible high-quality item (food, clothes, furniture, vehicles) to be delivered to our consumers (charities). This kind of delivery mechanism is not in place in any of the countries so far, so we think this could be a uniquely innovative, and doable idea to implement in the future.

What it does

It supports the community to provide basic necessities like food, second-hand clothing, money, and other reusable items like bicycles, furniture to people in need. The process is automated by our app. Anybody can donate -including working professionals and students. Our app acts as a middle-ware between the donators and the consumers. Individuals, corporates, and institutions can log in and raise their requests to donate. Once the user starts the program and login to the system, he can choose the type, amount, and what kind of the donation s\he wants to do in the app and send it to a charity of his choice. We guarantee safe deliveries by ensuring the items are safe to consume and wearable.

How we built it

We used Glideapp to build the prototype.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Concentrating on one solid idea and including features that are related to it in the case of food
  2. Charity responsibilities for inspecting the food packaging, food quality, and taking it to different locations.
  3. Expenses of the application operation to be covered by advertising and donations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We build the front-end of the application and tried to make it inclusive for everyone, It is one for all applications.

What we learned

We learned the various aspects of building a mobile app based on the said parameters and in a limited amount of time while also keeping innovation in mind. We brainstormed on our idea and worked in collaboration to make it successful. We also managed to enhance our teamwork skills as it is the first time for us to work together.

What's next for Give2Share

In the future aspect of the app, we can add some more features and options for keeping everything monetarily feasible and smooth. This can mean sponsors, ads, or individual donations to keep the operations running. The platform will be a good place for announcing any fundraisers for charity events in the future. Moreover, we think this platform is suitable for offering volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups. We also plan to have a hassle-free contract in place that can ensure the quality of the items and donations. We also plan to include verified charities in our app via an API and allow users to choose to whom they want to donate.
