United Nation Goal 4: Quality Education

Inspiration 🧠

While visiting India we visited alot of rural villages, while there we saw alot of schoolchildren. The children there had an eagerness to learn, but the lack of qualified teachers and educational materials stopped their dreams. Determined to make a difference, I knew I had to find a way to bridge this educational gap and empower these young minds.

One crucial aspect that caught our attention during our journey was the widespread access to mobile phones and the internet, even in these remote areas. It struck us that technology could play a transformative role in providing education to these children, regardless of their geographical location.

Thus, the idea for Glob-ED was born - an app that would utilize the power of AI, combined with the expertise of human teachers. Our dream was to create an inclusive platform where children, irrespective of their location, could access personalized and engaging educational content.

What it does 🤔

By combining AI and human teachers it allows the user to access a infinite amount of data and education without any restrictions from geography.

How we built it 🪛

I used React Native for the frontend with the ui library React Native Paper I used firesbase/firestore to store the teacher data I used langchain(python) to custom train a gpt-3.5-turbo model to be able to answer common questions students might have.

Challenges we ran into 😞

Training the AI took a while since the geometry textbook was very large and it had to convert all that to text.

Accomplishments that we're proud of 😁

Using axios instead of fetch, getting firebase working

What we learned 💡

Langchain, New fetch method for Open AI API react-native-localization + i18n-js(Translations with JS)

What's next for Glob-ED ⏭️

I plan to expand the AI model to cover more information including other subjects like chemistry, calculus and also niche topics like tensorflow or flask.

Also, we will set up a paid service where the country pays for the app and all of the residence get free access to it.
